Discover the world of realism art through my eyes. With a focus on intricate details and the essence of natural subjects, my work invites you to pause and reflect.
Meet the Artist:
I love colouring! As a kid, I entered every colouring contest I came across. I remember being super proud to win a five-foot, blue, stuffed bunny from one competition held by a little grocery store in Beaumont, a nearby town. I didn't even live there, but had heard about the contest and decided I needed to enter.
Growing up with a strict, German mom, I learned early on that in the world of colouring books, staying within the lines was more than just a suggestion—it was the rule. I think this might just be the reason I prefer realism art over abstract, due to the structured approach.
In elementary school, creating title pages for each unit quickly became my favorite activity. The grade I got for the title page often gave a slight boost to my "so so" marks in those subjects.
After high school, I wanted to take an arts program in college, but I was sadly placed on a waiting list. This crushed me. My dad, stressing the importance of further education, urged me to pursue something immediately. So, instead of waiting, I applied to an Office Administration program. After completing, I began working at a national commercial real estate firm at their front desk.
After working for a bit, I took a shot at showing my creative side by suggesting a redesign of the company's marketing materials. I felt I could make them more visually appealing. As a result, my boss supported my return to night school, where I completed my graphic design certification. Eventually, I became a Marketing Manager, and made a name for myself within the industry.
In 2010, my husband and I welcomed our first child. In 2013, after the birth of our second and the increasing costs of daycare, I chose to leave my regular paycheck behind and become a stay-at-home mom. I then welcomed a third child to the family.
One day, while my kids were preoccupied, I decided to pick up a pencil and draw something for the first time in over 20 years. It immediately brought me right back to being a kid, sitting at my little desk in my bedroom, pouring my heart into a creation. I realized how much I had missed it. My husband had no idea that I had once had this hobby.
As a kid, I knew what I liked to do. I've always been driven to improve how something looks or create something tangible from nothing. It always gave me a sense of satisfaction. Now, I'm thankful to once again be able reconnect with that side of myself; and I'm excited for the journey ahead. I would love for you to follow me on this journey!
Artist's Statement
I work primarily in PanPastel and coloured pencil, creating drawings focused on the natural world, with a growing emphasis on landscapes alongside birds, wildlife, and plant life. I’m drawn to these subjects for their structure, variation, and quiet presence in everyday environments.
Working in realism gives me a way to slow down and observe closely. In landscapes, that often means building atmosphere through light, distance, and tonal shifts. In wildlife and botanical work, it’s about surface, pattern, and form. The combination of PanPastel and coloured pencil allows me to move between broad tonal foundations and finer detail.
My work is rooted in observation. I aim to describe what I see with clarity and attention, and to create a moment of focus in a fast-moving world.
