'Field Mouse' Original Artwork
Original: Coloured Pencil and Panpastel on Pastelmat
8" x 10" in an 11" x 14" natural wood frame
I wanted to create a "mouse" piece, because I find them easily overlooked when thinking about "wild animals", yet they live full lives in a world that must seem impossibly big to them. I often wonder what things look like from their perspective, and how they navigate in such a vast environment. I see a quiet vulnerability to them and find it amusing that so many people are afraid of them. Also, it just felt right—my mother used to call me “Maus” (German) sometimes when she was trying to be extra sweet, so it’s a little nod to her too.
