Peonies have always held a special place in my heart. As a child, my grandparents’ front yard was filled with them, lush with blooms that seemed to take over the garden. As children, my cousin and I would slip outside while the adults gathered indoors. We would spend hours amongst the flowers. The sun would spill across the petals as we watched ants wander through the blooms, completely absorbed in our small, quiet world. The scent of the peonies still feels vivid to me, sweet, heavy, and unforgettable. This piece is a return to those moments, simple, sunlit, and full of wonder.
